After losing Daisy and then Tulip in the space of little more
than a year, Elaine didn't feel ready to adopt for quite awhile.
The story of Lily Magnolia and Pansy Gardenia actually starts
with another cat, a sweet white one named Pinky. We agreed to
be Pinky's foster parents for several months while her family
was relocating. On Father's Day weekend, Elaine flew Pinky out
to her family in their new home. When she returned, she was devastated
at the emptiness of our house. A few days later, we were at the Providence Animal Rescue League, interviewing candidates to live the life of Reilly (as Elaines mom would have called it.) After "only" an hour and a half the decision was made. Lily and Pansy are littermates and look almost like twins. They are predominantly white (like Pinky.) Lily has muted calico markings, similar to Tulips colors, but in very different proportions. Pansy has Daisys calico colors, but much more white. Lily is sweet and easy going, like Daisy. Pansy is assertive and demanding, like Tulip. (Remember, the colors are the reverse, however.) It can be quite unnerving to have a kitten that looks a bit like Daisy behaving like Tulip. So we are a family again and all enjoying it. Stay tuned for more news. For full-size photos and more details about the adoption of Lily and Pansy, please click here: LILY and PANSY |

From the owners of Chief Ship's Cat Bogey, who passed away in January (see eulogy for Chief Bogey) Following the passing of Chief Ship's Cat Bogey in January, competitive examinations were held for the position of Ship's Cat. We are pleased to announce the appointment of Ship's Kitty Recruits Jordan and Tippy from the Kitty Kat Adoption Agency in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Since the operational nature of our base has changed in recent times, these two cats have been retrained, and are now filling the billets of Hospital Cat, 3rd Class. With the rapid progress they have demonstrated, it is expected that they will continue to increase in rank. Both have expressed an interest in training for Kitty Officer Of the Watch, or KOOW. Their applications have been accepted, and watch officer training will commence on 1MAR99. We look forward to having our first Kitty Commissioned Officers!
